Summer fun
Well, there have been requests for updated pictures, so there will be even more put up shortly. The camping trip this last weekend was a lot of fun. Sharon did so well even in the heat. She enjoyed sitting on a spillway and letting the water run over her while the cousins played (and even got to scale her first rock face to get to the water...with the help of her uncle Martin and Pop-Pop). RJ had to miss out on the fun but was proud to hear of his brave girl's adventures...
I also got some pictures developed of a visit to the Outer Banks to visit my cousin Carolyn and her husband and two young sons. In the pictures (once they are posted?) you will see Sharon with a little boy who is her size (maybe bigger?) but only 8 weeks old!!! That was a fun trip and Sharon was able to experience the beach. She likes the water as long as the waves didn't get too much of her wet...
She has started to eat some cereal. I can already tell that it's going to be fun. On the second try she decided that she didn't need me to feed her and would only eat it when she did it herself, which she actually did. This week I'll check with the OT to see what kind of feeding plans she has for Sharon but in the meantime we'll just have fun making a mess!
There is no real news about Sharon's head size. The neurologist doesn't seem surprised and said that a small head is to be expected becuase of the brain injury. We're going to also hear what the other neurologist has to say whe he sees her again but he is booked until March!!
Sharon has caught on to the fact that people seem really interested in her right side and as a result she resists any attention paid to it...making her exercises more challenging, but luckily she loves to play and we can usually work with her as long as we keep it very fun! SHe has taken to the little splint really well and pretty much ignores it once it is one, occasionally trying to pull it off but not as much as we thought she would.
We hope you enjoy the pictures and God Bless!

Strong girl
Hello again! It's been a little while so i thought i'd give a bit of an update. Sharon is a riot! She's got the neatest personality...happy, smiling, LOVES to rough house, seems to enjoy adrenaline rushes (crazy, but true!), stubborn, and even has a temper...she's certainly proof that personality traits are inherited! Her little fuzz head is more and more blond but we're not sure what the end result will be. Her big eyes are definitely the Pierce blue. She loves our dogs but really loves the cats. She grabs their ears and faces...and they let her!
She seems to have developed more of a tolerance for her therapies and was able to work for an hour at each visit this week (she usually starts to get mad after 30-40 minutes). She works so hard...it's rather humbling to be there watching her. I commented to the OT today "if only the adults of this world would work as hard at what we do..." She is determined and i know she will go far. We started working with her cute little hand brace/splint today (makes her look like she should own a motorcycle or something!). It's going to be hard work, but to see her actually use that right hand was priceless!!!! I'll try it on her for a few minutes each day to see how she tolerates it...
We had a follow up NICU clinic this week and there is some concern that her head isn't growing as it should be. We don't really have any more information than that and will discuss it more at length with the neurologist(s), but some extra prayers sure couldn't hurt! (as a side note, while at this clinic the doctor and one of the PT workers kept making comments while examining Sharon like "well, that just doesn't make sense...her hips should be doing this since her arm does this" or "well, i haven't seen a leg work like that when a hand does this" etc. etc....And i smiled, knowing that prayer is what is making these unexplicable things happen for little Sharon!)
Sharon and I are missing RJ as he is on business most of this week. She can't quite figure out why his voice keeps coming out of the phone but insists that if she can just swallow the phone, maybe he'll appear...
Thank you all for continuing to check in on us and pray!
love and bless

Hello
Hello again! As you can see from the pictures, we had the benefit of celebrating Great-Gram's 93rd birthday last week. I've decided that Sharon must not be very photogenic, becuase in all these pictures she looks so serious and you'd never guess that she smiles ALL THE TIME! Maybe someday we'll actually catch it with a camera..
Our big news is that she has her first tooth!
We started OT a couple of weeks ago and i'm really excited about the therapist and her experience and attitude. She's got us working on use of the right hand all of the time and we can already see that her fist is much looser. She will begin to wear a tiny brace on that hand and we'll see how that does. Sharon is a stubborn little girl, which is great! It can be a hindrance (for example, she rolled over for us a few times last month but quickly decided that there was no real need for her to do that, so now she just ignores our encouragement and plays how she wants to play!), but overall we know that this stubborn streak is what has gotten her this far and will help her greatly as she continues this journey...
She also like to swim. I'm able to take her in the hot tub on those rare days when it's not a scorcher outside and she loves to kick and move in the water as recommended by our physical therapist.
she's just a sweet and pleasant baby and we're so proud of her!!! Thanks for your continued prayers and feel free to come and visit :)
